The Latin American Congress of Probability and Mathematical Statistics, or CLAPEM, the Spanish initials for Congreso Latinoamericano de Probabilidad y Estadística Matemática, is the regular congress of the Latin American Society of Probability and Mathematical Statistics.
CLAPEM has taken place since 1980, being its first edition celebrated as a part of the 10th Anniversary of the Simón Bolívar University in Caracas, Venezuela. Since then, 14 editions of the Congress have taken place in ten different countries of Latin America: Venezuela, Uruguay, México, Argentina, Chile, Perú, Colombia, Cuba, and Brasil. Nowadays, CLAPEM is considered the most important meeting in Probability and Mathematical Statistics for scientists in Latin America, and many names can be associated with its history.
CLAPEM's last edition took place in 2017 in San José, Costa Rica, hosted by the Universidad de Costa Rica. In 2019, the organization of the XV edition of CLAPEM will be conducted by leading institutions in México and will take place in December 2019 in the City of Mérida, in the Mexican state of Yucatán.
